The total number of deaths here from Covid-19 is officially under 2000 but no one knows the real numbers as the system isn’t set-up to gather accurate data. The pandemic is a dark cloud hanging over the country, as it is in most of the world. This country has done its best to shutter businesses and keep people at home. This has resulted in thousands of people who were already living on a daily subsistence level getting desperate and wondering how they will feed their kids. Crime is escalating.
Part of my daily life is meeting and praying with people who have lost their jobs or who have had to close their businesses. We are doing our best to provide for them as we have the means. Because a lot of what we do here is Christian education, the crisis has affected us all. So far 22 schools have been closed down. Our urban area schools are doing their best to provide online education but our schools in the villages are closed without any alternatives. We are discovering we are more capable than we had realized. Meanwhile, right here in our home, we are locked down with a lot of the people we have been discipling—so praise God for that!
In spite of the ministry barriers in place due to the virus, it’s a blessing to know our ministry partners remain undaunted in their efforts to reach out with the love of Christ. Though it often takes time, those efforts eventually bear fruit for the Kingdom. Pray for continued good health for the Robertsons, and for the wisdom and strength to meet the spiritual and physical needs of those they serve.
