Missions Door

One of the hardest hit ministries we support is not overseas, but right in our neighboring state of New Mexico. This report comes from Ben Yazzie, who coordinates Missions Door’s Navajo Ministry Team.

The virus hit our reservation hard, as well as other smaller Native villages. Because of this, our ministry has significantly been affected by the pandemic. Since I travel for most of my ministry, I had to suspend all of my leadership classes from March through May. However, I have been in contact with the Navajo Pastors and ministry leaders whom we labor alongside for leadership training, mentoring, and church development.

I had begun to record a course for Pastors, which is a new experience for me. I have always preferred classroom settings where I have the opportunity to interact with the students, but I am learning and asking the Lord to help me adjust to this new approach to distance education.

Our family helps coordinate a summer Bible conference in late July, but again due to safety and restrictions on the reservation, we will not hold the actual conference this summer. Instead, we decided to do a Virtual Bible Conference. Pray that this virtual conference will be exciting as we explore a new way to spread the gospel and to encourage God’s people.

As the news of the virus is in our faces everyday, ministries like Ben and Tillie quietly and faithfully move forward. Pray for the health of the people who live on the reservations and for Ben as he adjusts to new ways to spread the timeless message.
